Introduction to ISO 14001, this module explains the basic concept of iso 14001:2015
Clause 4 is the foundation of the ISO 14001:2015 Environmental Management System (EMS). It requires an organization to understand the bigger picture in which it operates both internal and external factors so that the EMS is designed to be relevant, effective, and sustainable.
This clause emphasizes that top management must take ownership and accountability for the Environmental Management System (EMS). It’s no longer just the job of the environmental manager leadership has to set the direction, integrate the EMS into business strategy, and lead by example
This clause is all about planning actions to address risks, opportunities, environmental aspects, and compliance obligations. It ensures the Environmental Management System (EMS) is proactive rather than just reactive.
Even the best plans won’t succeed without the right resources, people, and infrastructure behind them. Clause 7 ensures the Environmental Management System (EMS) is well-supported so it can run effectively.
Clause 8 is about putting plans into action. Once leadership, planning, and support are in place, this clause ensures that the Environmental Management System (EMS) is operated and controlled effectively to manage environmental aspects, compliance obligations, and risks.
This clause is about checking how well the EMS is working. It requires organizations to monitor, measure, analyze, and evaluate environmental performance, compliance, and audit results. Essentially, it’s the “Check” phase of the Plan-Do-Check-Act cycle.
Clause 10 focuses on making the Environmental Management System (EMS) better over time. It ensures that organizations don’t just maintain compliance, but also learn from mistakes, seize opportunities, and continually improve environmental performance.
